Another tulip

From a picture Patti Schroeder took when she went to the tulip fields....I saw so many during our trip to Vancouver BC that I didn't feel like I'd missed anything by not going to the Skagit Flats!

I was upstairs, trying to paint. Then trying to rub off what I'd painted. Having no fun at all...then it hit me....I didn't WANT to paint today! So I didn't....I bought groceries to make curry in the slow cooker (it better come together magically in this next hour because so far I am not impressed), weeded the garden, made GAK and colored rice for work.....had an okay Sunday....I hope I get my paint mojo back because it's going to be hard to even post frequently if I don't do more than I did today!! But here's one.....started from rubbing off extra paint on cardboard until an image came to me...

Girl in a Wetsuit

Today we had very odd weather, the weather that was predicted for yesterday. Lots of stormy clouds, some rain, then breaks of sunlight, then back to heavy gray clouds and rain. I tried to be upstairs painting when it was sunny and reading when it was rainy, the best of both worlds. Don't have that much to show for the painting but I did finish the Vancouver sketchbook I started last weekend. Chris has the right idea, using mostly collage and minimal sketching! But I'm not that good at scrapbooking....so I stuck stuff down but not very artistically. Whatever, I did make one painting, of a sculpture on the beach at Stanley Park, Girl in a Wetsuit. This actually makes her look bigger than she really is....

I'm ba-a-a-ack!

Unfortunately I am having a hard time getting my nose back to the daily (or even frequent) painting grindstone! Maybe part of the problem is that attitude.....but I had a great weekend in Vancouver, BC, with Patricia Shroeder and Chris Berard Cuneo, a good week back at work, and a decent Friday off when I finished a picture I started a few weeks ago. In truth I could keep trying to improve this, but I think I'm done. A word of explanation...my sister sent this picture of her garden patch in Central Texas, with spring snow...a real change in the weather pattern from my years in Texas!

The owl and the eclipse

This is it, my last painting for now! I have nothing left to show you, but hopefully will have some sketches from an upcoming trip, etc., until I get back to the acrylics....I never used glazing much with watercolors and now that I'm layering and glazing with acrylics I see the error of my ways. There is so much color in that owl that would never have happened any other way!

Another green face

I'll be taking a little break from these paintings...until I paint some more! Did other things last weekend and will be out of town this weekend.....but don't forget me! I have one more to post tomorrow then it'll be hit and miss for a couple of weeks until I can get back in the groove....

Sweet Tomato flowers

This is a picture I took a long time ago....when I met my sister and nieces in Portland for the South East Portland Art Walk, or something like that. It was a really neat studio open house kind of thing in South East Portland...we thought we'd go back every year but have never caught it again. We went to Sweet Tomato's for lunch and I took a picture of the (fake) flower arrangements they had. It's been showing up on my digital photo frame for years and I finally painted it....it was pretty fun and I kind of wish I'd done it on something besides cardboard..

Behind the veil

This was not just a scrap of cardboard, it's actually painted over another painting on a piece of canvas board....I'm intrigued with the way it developed, sort of finding it in the layers of paint. Don't know what it means, but I like it!

Durfort geraniums

Last September a friend and I had the great good fortunate to spend a week in Durfort, France (the mid-Pyrenees region) in a centuries old village with a history in copper working. The doorways and windows were lined with geraniums. This is from a picture I took then.....I have not begun to paint all the experiences we had there!

Adirondack art

I dearly love Adirondack chairs! And for a long time I wanted to have a business called Adirondack Art.....until I realized how really bad my constructional praxis is and how very uninterested my husband was in  making them. Fine then, I'll just paint pictures of them. Here's a traditional Adirondack but I'm hoping my sister Janet will send pictures of the ones they made last year from their blown down wooden fence. They are truly avant-garde!!

Glass not acrylic face

From time to time I just have to do a glass face. I like the way this one turned out.... It's hard to photograph glass so you'll have to trust me when I say that when the sun is coming through it when it's standing up in the window it looks way better than this!!

Another paint saving face

This one is mostly acrylic but also has some oils on it.....a long story. I don't post every face that I do from wiping off extra paint on my brush...just the ones who demand it!

Last one from TriCities

This is a clumsy attempt to imitate the ad for J Bell Cellars and Lavender. The ad itself is a glorious wash of color.....this has a lot of color....I think it was one of my less successful efforts....I could never pull it together so finally just called it done!

Encouragement is so nice!

Especially when it comes from someone who is as accomplished as Carolee Clark! When I was in TriCities recently I was at a loss for what to paint. Carolee posted this on her daily painting blog and I decided to give it a try. Suffice it to say it is nothing like the original, but she was nice enough to let me post it on my blog. So here is my painting and a link to the original. And you should really go look around her blog and her web page. Her work is amazing!!!

This is a painting I did during my recent visit to the TriCities....but it was from some promotional magazine for the area that I didn't note so can't credit.....anyway, you can definitely see the cardboard here but I still think it's kind of fun....

I need to paint this weekend...didn't get anything done during the week and I am completely out of paintings to post.....

Kingston Little Free Library

I don't know if this is a nation wide trend, but in western Washington state there are Little Free Libraries popping up everywhere. This one is the closest to me, on South Kingston Road in Kingston, Wa. I did this painting and made some bookmarks to leave in it for a guerrilla art bomb. Kind of fun!
