The verdict is in!

Janet thought the fact looked fine and she did not recommend trying to fix it. If it doesn't go to my friend at work it'll go to the gallery. On to the next face!

Sometimes a great notion

I already tried this face once. I tried again a second time, trying to get a better likeness. I don't know that I achieved that but he at least looks closer to his age!

From here I also did a glass face riffed off the original photo....but am having some complications (bubbles). My sis, the glass artist, will be here this weekend and said she'll show me how to attempt to fix it. I hope it works, then I'll post...

Anxious face

This is from some time back but I don't think I ever posted it on this blog....I'm taking it to the gallery tomorrow with the one from yesterday. Have one in the kiln now that is just okay then one to still fire that looks pretty I'll be posting those as they are finished....

back to glass

Today didn't have enough hours in it! Besides a trip to Costco, I put together another glass face for Liberty Bay Gallery. I'll show that one in a few days since it's not fired yet (until it's fired I don't believe it!)....but I'll post one I did the other day.

Another travel sketch

From my Friday at Port Townsend...this is the NW Maritime Center....not photorealistic....just the essence of it, maybe! But that is what I was sketching, at any rate....

Travel sketching

Well, sort of. I went to my happy place, Port Townsend, Friday when some other plans I had didn't work out. One thing I want to do more of is travel sketching so although this barely counts as travel, sketch I did. Two, and it was hard to sit and do these, even though I did so in the car rather than getting out and being around people.....but anyway, it's a start....

Bombing out in a new media!

So I've painted watercolors for years.....not well but optimistically. And then I started painting with I've stubbed my toe on a new media, oil paints! Oil painting might be the best way to get subtly blended skin tones...but not the way I tired! Oh, well, chalk it up to another daily painting....and lessons learned....

Baby faces

I recently saw this really great picture, the son of a teacher I work with. I kept thinking about it and just had to try it. As his mom said, there is something about close up of any baby's face that is so irresistible. That certainly is true of his picture!  I sketched it last night, added watercolor today. I lost him in the process, looks more like a bigger kid,  but it sure was fun! And I'm going to have to try again....

Red pepper in watercolor

I did it first in watercolor but I like the oil version better---I'll post that tomorrow (have to make these paintings last!)

volunteer nasturtium

One of my favorite things about gardening is seeing what comes back up volunteer. All the nasturtiums (all 3 of them!) what we have in the front border this year are volunteers from last year. I love nasturtiums and usually forget about them until I see them in someone else's yard so am glad I had these come back. Now I need to remember to re-plant next year!

Out of character

Today I continued to work along in that online oil painting class, Paint and Palette Essentials. However, I was really getting tired of monochromatic painting so, even though I had the lesson playing in the background, I just went for it without worrying about doing it 'right.' I think it's growing on me.....

Monochromatic study

In preparation for a couple of upcoming oil painting classes I've signed up for, I started doing a class on Craftsy called Paint and Palette essentials. This is the first study for the class.....kind of a bore but it was hard to get those values on paint that still moves around!! Every time I thought I had one part right I'd have to go back and change it where it had oozed a little. Undoubtedly I used too much medium.....I do love wet juicy watercolors but it may not work the same with oils painted vertically.

Self portrait after a hard week at work

No other words are necessary! Although I do like how my gray hair and wrinkles got kind of covered up by paint....

What princesses wear

If you ever wondered what princesses wear when they cook I have it on good authority that it's something like this!

Okay, this is the first exercise in One Watercolor a Day, just splashing around color. I should do this more sure is fun just to see the colors run and move!

A view from here

Bill doesn't grill and doesn't cook, but he makes a mean salad! I am having withdrawal from journaling so I did a quick watercolor sketch while he made dinner. I'm going to do a watercolor painting (or sketch) a day, per a book I just picked up by Veronica Lawlor, One Watercolor A Day. However, I really want to get back to recording my days so I may not follow her book literally.....However, after I did the sketch of Bill  I did one of the first exercises, just putting paint down randomly. Kind of fun but it's a soppy mess....I'll post it tomorrow.

Backgrounds for Digital Dreams

So, another online class! This one is about digitally creating pictures. The first assignment was to create backgrounds...I've only done these three. My favorite one is the one taken from a photo that I manipulated to change the colors and add some texture. This is sure fun!
