A painting and a quilting project

This is the oil paint version of the earlier watercolor study I posted, a pin cushion given to my by my friend, Betty. I was playing around with how to sign paintings but this is NOT it! I used that pin cushion today, cutting and piecing 1/4 of a baby quilt for my nephew's new baby, Kalley Jane (Jane for my mom). I stand while I sew and piece so after most of the morning and afternoon spent on piecing the quilt I am exhausted!!!

an oil don't-waste-paint face

Everything I read says use lots of paint, don't want to run out. But I do hate to waste those small bits of paint left at the end. This is another face made over several days of using up leftover oil paint...I think it started as an acrylic face.

watercolor study

Yesterday, when I got impatient with oil painting and wiped off the first version of a painting of a pin cushion that a friend gave me, I came in, grabbed my journal and watercolors, and did a study of the pin cushion...and started the oil painting over....I don't know how people paint alla prima because I seem to need to let the layers dry before adding the next one. I'll post that one in a day or two--hopefully it will work out--meanwhile here is the watercolor study.

Meh!!! Oil painting again

Why oh why can't I just be content getting better with watercolor or acrylics?! Why do I think I have to learn oils...oh, well, maybe because I've invested money in them again. Well, I have a lot to learn. Here is the second version of this painting and I'm stopping with it here! I think the body proportions aren't quite right...and the mailbox flag is backwards!!! But I'm done!

glass is surprising!

I was so inspired to do a face from a picture posted on Facebook of this beautiful baby, really smooth skin and sparkling it's kind of ironic that when I got it out of the kiln it had lots of little bumps (bubbles) all over the face! And this is after doing a bubble soak to minimize that effect. I wish I knew what to do different! I have no idea why it happened....but it is another face toward my 100!

Glass face

I had to get into production mode to restock the faces at Liberty Bay Gallery--they'd sold 4! So here is another one, this one is about 5x6".

Still artin'

I finished an oil painting I started and posted it on facebook but forgot to post here. Meanwhile, I'm working on glass faces to put in the gallery---I sold four last month! So I'll try to spread this out for a few sure is hot to be upstairs in the garage working!
